The infamous "Father" Brendan Smith , convicted child abuser , died in prison after a heart attack. The cover-up of the Brendan Smith case , involving the Attorney General's Office ,brought down the coalition government of Albert Reynolds and Labour Party leader , Dick Spring in November 1994.

The Laffoy Commission will investigate all cases of child and sexual abuse which took place in 59 religious state institutions . Child abuse was and "is" endemic in Irish state run religious institutions which "cared" for orphaned and problem children !
